Semantics is a field that delves into the understanding and explanation of words, unveiling new dimensions of meaning. One concept that requires in-depth exploration in semantics is "Khamr" (alcoholic drink), which has a notable presence in religion, society, and culture. There are various debates about its permissibility among both laypeople and experts. This study aims to address some doubts regarding whether Khamr is halal—a discussion some may intentionally engage in to disrupt personal and social life. The investigation follows a descriptive semantic method, focusing on syntagmatic relations. In the Holy Quran, Khamr is contrasted with words such as Dhikr Allah (remembrance of God) and Salat (prayer), and associated with Satan, Mayser (gambling), and Ithm (sin). One of the words appearing along with Khmer is 'benefit', which needs to be examined more closely in this regard. This analysis validates the authenticity of Quranic interpretations while considering the guiding and foresighted nature of the noble book. Semantic investigations reveal that alcohol—produced through fermentation—is seen as having some positive and practical features. Therefore, "benefit" in this context indirectly suggests that it is not synonymous with Khamr.
