This study investigates the semantic function of rhetorical precedence and delay (taqdīm wa taʾkhīr) in the linguistic structures of the Qurʾān, with particular attention to the first forty verses of Sūrat Yā Sīn. Using a descriptive analytical approach and drawing on classical exegetical and rhetorical sources, the research seeks to identify the rhetorical motivations behind these structural arrangements and to analyze their contribution to the semantic weight of the verses. In this analysis, precedence and delay are not treated as arbitrary variations in word order; rather, they are understood as deliberate rhetorical strategies designed to convey multiple layers of meaning. The findings indicate that this linguistic phenomenon carries substantial semantic density. In addition to explicit rhetorical effects such as emphasis, restriction, and rhythmic cohesion, the device also produces implicit meanings, including artistic emphasis, the intensification of warning and admonition, and the persuasive engagement of the audience. The employment of rhetorical precedence and delay in Sūrat Yā Sīn therefore reveals a sophisticated integration of linguistic structure and rhetorical purpose. Through these patterns of word order, the sūrah reinforces its central theological themes: divine unity, highlighted through the foregrounding of divine attributes and power; resurrection, emphasized through the depiction of reviving the dead and the accountability of human actions; prophethood, underscored by prioritizing the affirmation of prophetic identity; and the rejection of polytheism, articulated through refutations of polytheistic claims and warnings of punishment. The systematic deployment of these rhetorical structures contributes to the semantic cohesion of the sūrah and illustrates a dimension of Qurʾānic rhetorical inimitability, in which even minor adjustments in syntactic ordering produce a rich network of meanings.
