The story of human creation and the Fall in the Qurʾān occupies a foundational position in shaping the Qurʾānic understanding of human existence and therefore constitutes one of the central narratives of the Qurʾānic text. Although this narrative appears in a dispersed form across several sūrahs, its presentation in Sūrat al Baqarah displays a comparatively coherent structure and thus provides a suitable basis for narratological analysis. Despite the importance of this narrative, previous studies have largely limited their discussion to theological and historical interpretations and have rarely employed theoretical approaches from the humanities to investigate its narrative organization. The present study therefore seeks to examine how the narrative structure of the story of creation and the Fall is constructed in Sūrat al Baqarah and to what extent it can be analyzed through Greimas’s actantial model. Drawing on Greimasian narratology and employing a descriptive–analytical method, the study analyzes the fundamental components of the narrative, including actants, narrative functions, narrative sequences, and modes of characterization within the Qurʾānic account of creation and the Fall. The findings indicate that, despite the apparent dispersion of the relevant verses, the Qurʾānic narrative of creation and the Fall demonstrates a coherent internal organization and a consistent narrative logic that can be effectively explained through Greimas’s analytical framework. In particular, the actantial model, narrative roles, and propositional structures proposed by Greimas show significant analytical capacity when applied to this narrative. The application of Greimas’s theoretical framework further reveals that the Qurʾānic account of creation and the Fall, notwithstanding its apparent textual fragmentation, possesses a systematic structure, strong internal cohesion, and a robust narrative architecture.
